The Alie is Sam Edelman's bow ballet flat, cut here in Saigon suede in French Merlot, a burgundy soft enough to behave like a neutral against denim, camel, navy and black. A quarter-inch heel keeps it modern rather than girlish, and there is no closure to fuss with.

Wear it with straight-leg jeans and a cardigan, under a midi dress with bare ankles, or with tailored trousers when a loafer feels too heavy.

Fit: If you are between sizes, take the larger.

Whole and half sizes, US 7 to 11. Slip-on with no adjustable closure, so the fit is fixed. Suede relaxes a little with wear.
